Pop Culture collectibles brand Funko is collaborating with Warner Bros for DC Comics’ phygital NFT exclusively through retail business Walmart. As per the reports in the community, Funko will start selling the “Brave and the Bold” collection which includes 30,000 NFTs on Walmart’s website at Walmart Collector Con from 7th October onwards.
The phygital project would be the arrangement of physical and digital comic book collectibles and would, therefore, include a cover from DC’s “The Brave and the Bold”, in both printed form and as an NFT.
Fans purchasing the NFT can connect their crypto wallet and claim the NFT online which are minted on the World Asset eXchange blockchain (WAX). WAX is a network that sustains 60 million NFTs including that by Funko, Topps, Atari, and other mainstream brands, along with 30,000 dapps. CEO Andrew Perlmutter remarks that this is a great opportunity to test out what this could look like with retailers, and if we wanted to extend our NFT business to physical retailers as well as digital.
Head of NFT Commercial Development at Warner Bros. Josh Hackbarth, conveyed that it’s exciting to witness all the fan enthusiasm around the Funko Digital Pop! Series.
Funko has been regularly unleashing NFT components to its flagship “Pop!” action figures for the past year or so. In August 2021 it kicked off its digital asset extension with its Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles collection, letting users buy both figures along with an NFT.
