What is Sorare?

Sorare was founded in 2018 by Nicolas Julia and Adrien Montfort. Sorare is a fantasy football game that allows players to purchase, sell, trade, and manage a virtual team through NFT player cards. First things first—how does traditional fantasy football work?

In general, you select your favorite players to create weekly lineups before match day. Then, you get game points based on the chosen players’ performance during that game week.

Top Players cards in Sorare

In Sorare, the game approaches a bit differently. Unlike the traditional fantasy football game where you select player names from a list, you have to first purchase the NFTs corresponding to the player you want on your team. The tagline goes like this, “Own Your Game

Hence, you completely own the player cards in this game. These NFT cards are based on the Ethereum blockchain. Further, you can also sell them in secondary markets as with any other NFT collectibles.

Using the digital cards on this NFT platform, you can create a five-a-side team. Once you do that, you can manage your team and participate in virtual tournaments. More importantly, you can start earning weekly rewards in form of ETH and rare cards.

Once you have the right set of cards, it’s time to get ready for exploring the arena of leagues!

Sorare Tournaments

Sorare hosts a range of tournaments that are completely free to enter every week. You’ll start the game as a “Manager” and will be promoted to “New Manager” after either playing for four weeks or entering four leagues.

Once your players meet the requirements of the leagues, you can register your team for the same. Keep in mind, that your 5-a-side-team requires the following category players—1 goalkeeper, 1 defender, 1 midfielder, 1 forward, and 1 additional player from another position i.e. CDM, RB, or LB choice is yours. You will also have to select a captain from the chosen five.

Based on the Matchday performance of each player, your Sorare team will earn points. These points depend on different performance parameters such as minutes played by a player, goals scored, clean sheets kept, and the assists.

however, the yellow and red cards the players receive are also an important factor. If your player ends up getting any of these cards there is a negative impact on points.

In short, the better the performance of the players on Matchday, the better your points score.

In addition, another criterion that decides a card’s score is its XP. The cards can accumulate XP based on different parameters. One such parameter is the age of the card. Cards from the ongoing season will have more XP.

Here comes the most exciting part,

Each tournament offers different rewards. These rewards are mostly in the form of ETH.

For instance, in the All Stars global championship, the top three players receive ETH as well as a rare, highly valuable player card. Needless to say, pro-gamers are more likely to win these. But, if you are a beginner, you can still win rewards by chucking in a few points. For example, while you earn 0.01 ETH for crossing 205 points, you will receive 0.02 ETH if you score 250 points.

How to Trade on this Global Platform

Sorare offers multiple ways to purchase player cards. Firstly, you can bid on new cards from the “New Signings” tab. These are cards newly minted by Sorare and put up for auction. The highest bidder gets the player.

On the other hand, the “Transfer Market” section works as a secondary market. A gamer can resell his cards for a fixed price and buy different cards directly from other gamers. Although secondary sales are a good option to buy cards at reasonable costs, you won’t receive any sign-up bonus.

In order to sell the cards, click the “Sell my card” button on the card. Remember, that Sorare doesn’t allow you to auction your cards. You can only sell them at a fixed price.

Lastly, you can buy players directly by making a bid. Here you choose any player you like and click on the “Make an offer” button. If the offer is accepted, the player is yours.

Here are some bonus tips to play Sorare

Your score and rewards depend entirely on your lineup. So, you must pay the utmost attention while you create your dream team. Choose each player carefully. Here’s the bonus tip, always pick players that are active and play regularly for their clubs. Because if your chosen player is not playing, you won’t score any points.

Further, make sure that your team members have a good average rating. You’ll require large capital to buy top players. Hence, a proper team with reasonably good players can help you earn good scores.

So, before you bid for or buy a player’s card, make sure to check its XP level. Also, if you have a particularly good player that you want to build up, you can send them to Special Training League. Participating in this league will help the player gain more XP.

Next, choose the captain with extreme precaution. This is because captains receive an additional 20% of the weekly XP. Also, captains in the teams play a pivotal role when there is only a marginal score difference between the first and second prize winners. Thus, choose your captain wisely.

The Future of the Blockchain Fantasy Game

Sorare’s attention to detail, in terms of tournaments and rewards, and a roster of players from all major clubs make it an attractive and exciting fantasy game. It is backed by venture capital firm Atomico, D1 Capital, Eurazeo, IVP, and more.

In addition, the board of advisors includes football player Gerard Piqué of Spain, tennis star Serena Williams, SoftBank CEO Marcelo Claure, Antoine Greizmann (Investor), etc. In fact, the company raised a whopping $688 million last year, creating history as the biggest series B round for a French tech startup.

The best thing about the Sorare NFT game is its global nature. It includes players from all over Europe, America, and Asia. Further with strong backing and heavy investment, the game, is only going to expand its player base in upcoming years.

What’s more, it has launched a separate NFT collection called Legends and has plans to enter into other sports NFTs as well. While there have been some hiccups along the way, Sorare surely seems to be on an upward trajectory in terms of growth!
