Finally! Sega Joins The Metaverse, The 5 Year AAA Title Super Game NFT Project in Testing Phase

After Sega’s announcement of the Super Game creation last year, the trail went cold. So now after a year of ignorance, a few details regarding the much-awaited project have been shed some light on in recent times.

What is the Super Game Plan?

SEGA’s Super Game will have four distinct features. They will be AAA games, they will be multiplatform, they will have support for several languages, and they will receive a simultaneous worldwide release.

The five-year, plan for the Super Game creation, along with a budget of $800-million was announced back in May 2021 with no other specific details.

Officials Explanation of the Super Game

The part of fresh news on the project has been recently thrown into the space thanks to the internal interview between Sega Japan’s recruitment website and executive VP Shuji Utsumi.

In the interview for SEGA’s recruitment site, SEGA’s executive vice-president Shuji Utsumi explained how these factors will create the scale of development necessary for global blockbusters.

The aim is to “revive the value of SEGA’s numerous IPs and create new game content” said Utsumi.

“Sega offers a wide range of game content, including hardware and arcade content, which is made possible by its diverse range of technologies,” said Utsumi, further he added, “We have defined ‘SuperGame’ as the development of AAA titles that cross over SEGA’s comprehensive range of technologies, and we will aim to achieve this in our five-year plan.

According to the general manager Katsuya Hisai, the team already has multiple super game projects in the development phase. The project will be built on Unreal Engine 5. There are 50 people included in the initial stages and the number will increase to “hundreds of people” once development gets fully underway.

Some of their brands are already popular amongst the gamers, These games are Sonic, Phantasy Star, Persona, Total War, and Yakuza. In fact, House of the Dead and Soul Hackers are also getting revivals. SEGA’s producer Masayoshi Kikuchi says, one of SEGA’s main beliefs is that “Japaneseness” is one of their strengths.

Here, some of the intentions of the Super Game have become more clear:

  • The project will be split over multiple platforms
  • It requires a multilingual feature
  • The game needs to have a simultaneous worldwide release
  • Has to be of AAA quality

In addition, the Super Game will make use of cloud technology and NFTs, which undoubtedly are natural extensions for the future of gaming.

Thus, the NFT implementation will open up pay-to-win opportunities for gamers. Whatever bright prospects are, there are a lot of competitors in the World of Web3.

For now, there are still 4 years till the Super Game project’s launch. It seems clear that Sega is at least ready to enter the world of the metaverse.

Let’s wait and see what the Super game offers.
