Mississippi Woman faces 10 Years Jail Time for Paying for Murder in Bitcoin

The US Department of Justice convicted the 40-year-old resident of Pelahatchie, Mississippi – Jessica Sledge – to the statutory maximum of 10 years in Federal Prison. Back in 2021, the woman hired a “hitman” and paid him $10,000 worth of bitcoin to kill her husband.

In September 2021, American law enforcement agents acquired information that Jessica Sledge had engaged with a murderer through the Dark Web. A month later, she delivered him $10,000 worth of bitcoin so he could murder her husband.

Aware of Sledge’s intents, an undercover police officer reached out to her, identifying himself as the “hitman” she assigned with the task. Following a series of recorded conversations, she affirmed the bitcoin transaction and its intention.

In November 2021, Sledge consented to meet the FBI agent she thought was the assassin, gave him an extra cash payment, and once again verified her murder plot.

Following this event, the authorities had substantial evidence to arrest her. According to a recent notification, United States District Judge Carlton W. Reeves sentenced Sledge to the statutory maximum of 120 months in jail. She will also have to pay a $1,000 fine, while law enforcement agents will rigidly monitor her actions for a term of three years after she gets released.

Thanks to the precise operation of the American authorities, the intended victim remained y unharmed.
